Security
Lid Keeper temporarily changes how your Mac sleeps. Its controls should be understandable before you start a session.
Updated 24 October 2026
Why macOS asks for approval
The current app requests administrator approval for each session to change the system sleep setting and install a temporary recovery watcher. The watcher runs with administrator privileges independently of the menu-bar app. It holds the session deadline and checks that the app is still responding.
Approval is handled by macOS. Lid Keeper does not store your administrator password or send it to a server. Restoring sleep may also require macOS approval.
What ends a session
You can end a session yourself. The app and watcher also check the time limit, battery state and macOS thermal state. The battery cutoff is 15% while unplugged; a serious or critical thermal state ends the session. A missing heartbeat, app exit or invalid recovery state triggers restoration as well. Sessions are limited to four hours.
These safeguards reduce risk; they do not guarantee safe temperatures or uninterrupted work on every Mac. Keep your Mac on a stationary, ventilated surface. Do not run a closed-lid session inside a bag or covered space. Check your own hardware, audio output and apps with a short session first.
Restoration stays available
End session and sleep recovery do not depend on a paid license, an unexpired trial or an internet connection. If restoration fails, the app keeps a visible repair action and recovery information for another attempt.
Lid Keeper restores the normal sleep setting; it does not finish your download, save another app’s work or detect when a task completes. macOS and your other apps determine what happens afterward. If something looks wrong, reopen the lid, use the app’s restoration control and contact support.
The current download
The preview is ad-hoc signed. It is not signed with an Apple Developer ID and has not been notarized by Apple. macOS may block it or show an unidentified-developer warning. It should not be treated as an Apple-verified commercial release.
Read Apple’s guidance on safely opening Mac apps before deciding whether to run the preview. You can wait for the signed, notarized release. Do not disable your Mac’s security protections to use Lid Keeper.
Licensing and security reports
When online activation is configured, the app will verify a signed receipt before saving it to Keychain. The app contains the public verification key; private signing keys and merchant credentials belong on the server. Already-issued permanent offline receipts cannot be revoked immediately after a refund.
Report a suspected vulnerability or restoration fault privately to support@lidkeeper.com. Include the app and macOS versions, what happened and the steps that led to it. Avoid sending passwords, full license keys or private documents. Reports go to Faiz Krisnadi; there is no guaranteed response-time or bounty program.
